Flowering climbing vines for your front yard

A climbing flowering vine is a plant that climbs up trees and other tall objects, with many climbing plants being flowering vines whose stems wrap around trees and branches but there are other methods of climbing.

Vines use tendrils or specialized stems used by climbing plants, suckers, thorns and other methods to support themselves. Examples include;

1. Climbing Roses

Before you choose any varieties, and certainly before you plant climbing roses , first analyze the space you want them to fill.

Secondly consider the size and background color of any walls or fences.

Creamy roses will be lost against a whitewashed wall, and similarly red blooms disappear against red brick.

I think we all want the front of our houses to look as beautiful as possible and a climbing rose in full flower goes a long way towards achieving that goal.

Training climbing roses on a house wall is easy and the result is always beautiful.

This works in whatever the style of yard. Climbing roses are a nice complement to clematis and a perfect choice for formal and English style gardens.

Train on a fence, trellis or garden wall.

Climb around doorway or window. Allow to climb over an arbor or gateway to create a beautiful and fragrant entrance.

Remember roses are not self-clinging and so need to be attached to the wall with the help of wires strained across or a trellis.

Roses have a lovely vintage rose scent, which means it’s one of the best climbing plants for front of your house.

Whether you are adding a climbing rose feature to a striking modern pergola or an old-fashioned cottage garden archway, strong fragrance is often a number one requirement.

You should make sure the rose you choose can be enjoyed fully at a suitable height for catching those perfumes.

2. Trumpet Vine

Trumpet Vine will drape softly over the front wall of your house to add a vibrant and colorful tropical look to your front yard.

In addition to the more common shades of red and coral pink, these beautiful, tubular flowers come in yellow and orange too.

Humming birds cannot resist the vivid blooms of this gorgeously showy trumpet vine, so commonly referred to as humming bird tree.

3.Star Jasmine

Jasmines are evergreen or deciduous climbers with twining stems. They can be summer or winter flowering, with flowers that are white, yellow and occasionally red and pink.

Star jasmine is a true gem in the world of climbing vines .

This beauty add a touch of elegance and charm to the front of your house. With its skinny stems, star jasmine is a lightweight contender, making it a breeze to train and guide up a wall.

Although this plant is lightweight I would still suggest pruning it at least once a year, otherwise it can grow where you don’t want it, and if left too long can grow heavy.

Plant jasmine somewhere sunny, warm and sheltered, preferably near your seating area to enjoy the scent of the flowers.

This versatile climber envelops walls with lush green foliage all year round. During spring and early summer the small star-shaped white flowers will drench your front yard with fragrance so it makes a nice welcome home, especially if you train it to grow around your doorway.

4. Bougainvillea

For an enchanting flourish choose a bougainvillea, especially if you are looking to lift your front of house with a vivid burst of climbing flowering vine. They don’t need much care once they have settled in.

They rarely need watering but they do need a specially formulated high nitrogen liquid feed.

There is an exuberance when there is that amount of color on a plant. Vivid flowers coat the vines in brilliant jewel tones of fuchsia, magenta, scarlet and purple.

Other cultivars are available too in softer colors like apricot, cream, and blush pink.

If you design for the front of your house it looks particularly nice framing a door way.

5.Clematins

If you have the space, consider planting two or more different varieties side by side. This will give you an ever-changing display of different flower styles, colors and bloom times.

Clematis are long-lived, and they don’t like to be moved, so choose the planting site carefully.

The ideal location should have well drained soil that’s rich and loamy. If possible, find a spot where the root zone will stay relatively cool preferably near plants to shade the soil.

If you plant in a more open area, mulching is a must, keeping the mulch a few inches away from the stems.

6.Hydrangea

Climbing hydrangea is another plant that can be hard to establish, but once you get it going, it really goes. It can reach heights up to 50 feet with showy white blooms that are good for hummingbirds and butterflies.

Give it a strong support system so it can climb high, and keep it mind that it doesn’t do great in really hot climate.
