Selection of the best cultivar is paramount to a successful production of passion fruits root stocks for sale .Sweet yellow passion fruit (known as Passiflora edulis flavicarpa) is used as the root stalk in the effort to reduce problems that affect the root system of susceptible cultivars eg purple passion fruits( P. edulis).The yellow passion fruits poses a higher resistance to soil borne diseases eg leafspot & wilt and pests eg nematodes.
Nursery management and cultural activities
- Nursery should be placed in an isolated area from other fruits trees plants. Preferably rotate the nursery once a year with other crops to prevent diseases and pests build up.
- Seeds are first sown in beds and later transplanted into potting bags. Avoid closer spacing as this fosters development and spread of diseases.
- Once the seedlings have emerged and have 2 true leaves they should be pricked out and all seedings exhibiting signs of diseases or pests infestation be removed and destroyed.
